Traditional climbing course
Traditional climbing is a type of climbing using removable protection, requiring more advanced knowledge to practice safely. This style of climbing opens the door to big wall ascents, giving you a new range of crack-climbing techniques applicable to both traditional and sport climbing.
This traditional climbing course is designed for advanced climbers with solid sport climbing knowledge who want to take their climbing to the next level and learn traditional climbing safely and efficiently.
Objective
The goal of this course is for students to be able to practice traditional climbing independently, safely, and efficiently by the end of the program.
Requirements: Good physical and mental health suitable for the activity. Sport climbing experience required, with at least one route graded 5.10b.
Course Content
To achieve the course objectives, the following content will be covered and individually assessed for each student:
- Safety and risk management at a climbing
area. - Introduction to equipment used in
traditional climbing. - Correct placement of removable protection (cams
and nuts). - How to remove stuck cams or nuts.
- Different types of mobile anchors using rings, cord
and rope. - Protection on rock features and trees.
- Gear organization.
- Lead climbing.
- Aid climbing (maximum A1).
- Crack climbing technique.
Basic personal gear you need:
- Helmet
- Harness
- Climbing shoes
- Personal anchor system
- Chalk bag
- Belay device; ATC or GriGri.
- Two locking carabiners (HMS)
- 5m cordelette, 7mm.
- Quickdraws (optional)
- Single rope (optional)
- Anchor setup: sewn sling minimum 120cm, 4 locking carabiners
- Backpack 30–40 L
- Appropriate clothing for the activity
Course Rules
- Consumption of drugs and alcohol is strictly prohibited during class hours.
- Punctuality is required for the proper development of classes.
- Each student is responsible for studying the support materials and resolving any doubts with the instructor.
- If a student misses class without prior notice, it is their responsibility to catch up on the missed content.
Payment
- To book the traditional climbing course, a 50% deposit is required. The remaining 50% must be paid no later than 48 hours before the course starts.
- If you have already paid and decide not to take the course, you must request a refund of the 50% deposit at least 10 days in advance. Otherwise, the deposit will not be refunded.
- In cases of force majeure such as rain, road closures, environmental disasters, etc., Andes to Pacific reserves the right to change the course location or cancel it with the option to reschedule.
