About This Course


This climbing course is aimed at those with no outdoor rock climbing experience, or who have been climbing for a while and want to acquire the skills to get started safely and efficiently in sport climbing outdoors. You will learn the fundamental techniques for rock climbing, giving you the essential skills to enjoy this exciting activity with confidence.

The climbing course lasts 3 days: the first day is a theory and practice session in Santiago, and the remaining 2 days are full-day field sessions.

Objective 

The goal of this course is for students to be able to practice sport climbing on rock independently and safely by the end of the program.

Good physical and mental health suitable for the activity.

Course Content

  • Safety and risk management at a climbing area.
  • Introduction to equipment used in sport climbing.
  • Knots.
  • Belay techniques with ATC and GriGri — leading and top-rope.
  • How to lead a route.
  • How to strip a route.
  • How to catch a fall and take a fall.
  • Building a top-rope anchor.
  • How to safely bail from a route.
  • Reading climbing sector topos.

What equipment do you need?

You don't need your own gear to take this course — we provide all the technical equipment. The only thing you must bring is your own climbing shoes.

  • Helmet
  • Harness
  • Climbing shoes (you must bring your own)
  • Personal anchor system
  • Chalk bag
  • Belay device: ATC or GriGri
  • Two locking carabiners (HMS)
  • Backpack 30–40 L
  • Quickdraws (optional)
  • Single rope (optional)
  • Anchor kit: sewn sling of at least 120 cm, 4 locking carabiners (optional)

Course Rules

  • Consumption of drugs and alcohol is strictly prohibited during class hours.
  • Punctuality is required for the proper development of classes.
  • Each student is responsible for studying the support materials and resolving any doubts with the instructor.
  • If a student misses class without prior notice, it is their responsibility to catch up on the missed content.
