Deep in Chilean Patagonia, the Cochamó valley hides some of the largest and most beautiful granite walls on the planet: silver domes rising more than 1,000 meters above the temperate rainforest. Climbers call it "the Yosemite of South America", but with a fraction of the crowds.
We are Andes to Pacific, a local Chilean climbing team, and we guide this valley the way it should be experienced: safely, without rushing, and with people who know every approach, every camp and every pitch.
Why climb in Cochamó?
More than 300 routes on world class granite, with walls over 1,000 meters tall. The climbing is mostly trad and multipitch in a wild valley with no roads, and with fewer than 15,000 visitors a year you get a solitude that no longer exists in Yosemite. This is real adventure: jungle approaches, hand drawn topos and true big wall history.
The best season
The climbing season runs from December to March, the southern summer, when the valley is at its driest and warmest. February is the busiest month. Outside that window the valley is rainy, cold and often snowy, so we recommend booking guided dates well in advance for January and February.
What level do I need?
Cochamó is serious adventure granite. Most of the classic routes fall between 5.10 and 5.11 on natural protection, in an alpine setting. You do not need to be an expert to enjoy it, but you should feel comfortable moving on multipitch terrain and trusting your rope partner. Tell us about your experience and we will suggest the right objective for you, from your first multipitch to committing big walls. Not there yet? We also run courses and technique days in Cajón del Maipo to get you ready for Cochamó.
