About This Course

This course is designed for climbers or mountaineers who want to expand their skills and get started safely in ice climbing.

Objective

The goal is for students to begin ice climbing safely, and by the end of the course to move confidently and with greater autonomy on ice.

Course Content

  • Safety in an ice climbing environment.
  • Ice morphology, terrain reading, and hazards.
  • Technical equipment used in ice climbing.
  • Correct placement of ice screws.
  • Anchors, knots, and belay stations — efficient and safe use.
  • Correct use of ice axe and crampons.
  • Ice climbing technique.
  • Lead climbing on ice.
  • Gear organization.
  • Stripping an ice route.
  • Technical equipment maintenance.

Required personal gear:

  • Helmet
  • Sunglasses or ski goggles
  • Harness
  • Multi-pitch ATC
  • Personal anchor system
  • 5 locking D-shaped carabiners
  • 240mm sewn sling for anchors
  • 7mm rappel cord
  • Crampons 
  • A pair of technical ice axes
  • 3 ice screws per person (optional)
  • Double or single dry-treated ropes (optional)
  • Ice screw holder (optional)
  • 4 runner slings or quickdraws
  • Backpack 35–45 L
  • Avalanche transceiver (Avalung / Pieps)

Clothing recommendations

  • Warm hat
  • Buff / neck gaiter
  • Waterproof jacket

  • Softshell or waterproof pants
  • Full base layer
  • Double or versatile mountaineering boots
  • Warm gloves with fingers (two pairs recommended)

Recommendations

  • Appropriate clothing for the weather.
  • High-ankle trekking shoes.
  • Sun hat.
  • Sunglasses and sunscreen.
  • Trail food or light snacks for eating during class.
  • Quick lunch and snacks for breaks.
  • At least 2 liters of water.


To book the workshop, a 50% deposit is required. The remaining 50%
must be paid the day before the workshop, no later than
the day before the scheduled date.


If you have already paid and decide not to take the workshop, you must request the
50% deposit refund at least 48 hours before the scheduled date.
Otherwise, the 50% will not be refunded. However,
you will have the option to reschedule.


The date is subject to change due to bad weather
conditions.
