Less than 30 minutes from central Santiago, with sweeping views of Cerro Manquehue and the full valley, the Lo Curro climbing area Lo Curro<\/strong> has become a unique space to practice multi-pitch climbing without leaving the city. Set on an island hill surrounded by sclerophyllous forest, this compact crag delivers a surprising experience: you're surrounded by nature, with no urban noise \u2014 yet still just minutes from Santiago, Chile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today we want to share an exciting update that adds even more value to this spot: an updated topo<\/strong> covering all the multi-pitch routes available at Lo Curro, including variants and recently bolted new lines. This article is your guide to getting to know them \u2014 and maybe motivating you to try them, or even take a course with us to climb safely and independently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Classic Multi-Pitch at Lo Curro<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Approximately 60 meters tall, the classic multi-pitch<\/strong> is the oldest route at the crag and an excellent option for those wanting to take their first steps on multi-pitch terrain. The route is fully bolted with quickdraw anchors, but also includes some pitons and reinforced anchors that allow you to practice real transition and belay station maneuvers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pitch 1 (5.9):<\/strong> Begins with a technical move right after the first bolt. The climbing then becomes more fluid, following a line protected by bolts and a couple of pitons. Halfway up, there is a bolt anchor from which you can build an intermediate belay station if you want to split the pitch \u2014 or just continue to the next anchor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pitch 2 (5.9):<\/strong> From the intermediate terrace, the second pitch opens to the right, climbing a solid and obvious pillar up to a chain anchor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u27a1\ufe0f This multi-pitch can be done in two or even three pitches depending on your goals \u2014 whether you want more practice building anchors or just want to climb it. It's ideal for practicing anchor building, transitions, and rope management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trad Variant: A Line for Those Who Want Something Different<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

From the second pitch of the classic multi-pitch, a left-hand variant<\/strong>opens up, fully protectable with trad gear. The route follows a corner system facing left, cleanly climbable with a simple rack from #0.2 to #3 Black Diamond plus a set of nuts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To ease traffic and reduce congestion on the classic route, a bolted anchor on the left terrace<\/strong>was installed \u2014 ideal for practicing trad anchor building in a friendly and safe environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"La Dominguera\": A New Beginner Multi-Pitch<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

To the right of the classic multi-pitch, just before the stairs leading to the upper section, you'll find La Dominguera<\/strong>, a new two-pitch multi-pitch \u2014 ideal for those just getting into multi-pitch climbing or wanting to reinforce their techniques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This route was bolted by Alan Winter and Francisco Rojas<\/strong> with the goal of providing a more accessible and educational route at the crag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pitch 1 (5.7):<\/strong> Begins with friendly, well-protected climbing leading to a first anchor with bolts and maillon rappel rings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pitch 2 (5.9):<\/strong> Continues right into a more vertical and engaging section, with a technical move at the end before reaching the final anchor. A great pitch for practicing role swapping and smooth transitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Important Considerations<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Although Lo Curro is an excellent place to practice, it is still a multi-pitch environment.<\/strong>It's important to understand that being several meters off the ground while building anchors, making transitions, or rappelling requires technique, judgment, and experience. If you're not confident with all the maneuvers, we strongly recommend taking a course before attempting it on your own.<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
